Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of Yelewata attack in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State staged a massive protest on Wednesday, alleging abandonment by the state government.
The protesters, numbering in their hundreds, blocked the ever-busy Makurdi-Abuja highway, leaving motorists stranded for hours as tension gripped the area.
Chanting solidarity songs and holding placards with bold inscriptions such as “NO FOOD,” “NO BSEMA,” “IORPUU DON NEGLECT US,” and “BRING BACK SHIOR,” the IDPs expressed anger over the poor living conditions in the camp. Many claimed they have been left without food, healthcare, or any form of support from the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA) for months.

The protest caused heavy gridlock, with travellers and commercial drivers caught in the standstill, as the road serves as a major link between Benue and the Federal Capital Territory. Some motorists, caught unawares, expressed sympathy for the IDPs but urged the government to act swiftly to restore normalcy and prevent further disruptions.
