Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, on Tuesday, allayed the fear of corps members on insecurity in the state, saying that more security operatives have been deployed to the state to keep it safe.
He stated this during the closing ceremony of the 2025 Batch A Stream II orientation course at the National Youth Service Corps camp in Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area of the state.
“Our dear state has experienced insecurity through unprovoked attacks on our communities in recent times.
“My administration has not rested on its oars through consistent engagement with the security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to strengthen security intervention and provide lasting solutions to these persistent attacks.

“We have received additional security deployment for the vulnerable areas and I assure you of your safety throughout your stay in the state.
“Moreso, my administration will continue to prioritise the welfare and well-being of corps members serving in the state throughout their service year,” the governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth, Sports Development and Creativity, Terkimbi Ikyange, said.
The assurance was to allay the fears of the corps members, following the killings and destruction of houses in Yelwata by suspected armed herdsmen, leading to almost 200 deaths.
The Governor warned heads of government ministries, departments and agencies against the rejection of corps members posted to them.
“Let me remind all corps employers, particularly government ministries, departments and agencies, as well as the private sectors in the state, that the policy of non-rejection of corps members is still enforced.
“For the avoidance of doubt, any government agency head who defies this directive could be sanctioned accordingly,” he said.
The state NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Veronica Garba, urged the corps members to be good ambassadors of the scheme and their families.
“As you proceed to your various places of posting shortly, I urge you to be good ambassadors of the scheme, your families and institutions of graduation.
“Stay away from negative acts that are inimical to the image of NYSC and your families, especially drug abuse and trafficking, cybercrimes, cultism and bribery, amongst others,” Mrs Garba said.
