The immediate past president of Nigeria Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari is dead.
His former Media Aide, Garba Shehu, broke the news on his X handle, explaining that the former president passed away on Sunday at a private clinic in London at the age of 82.
He posted: “It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our father, leader, and elder statesman, Muhammadu Buhari. He died peacefully in a London clinic surrounded by close family members.”
The cause of death has not been officially disclosed, but sources close to the family revealed that the former president had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness in recent weeks.

Buhari served as Nigeria’s military Head of State between 1983 and 1985, and later as a democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023, making him one of the country’s most prominent political figures in modern history.
The Federal Government is expected to announce official funeral arrangements in the coming days. Flags are likely to be flown at half-mast nationwide in honor of the late statesman.
